Welcome to Sound Minds
I'm Colleen Carolin
Registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist
Sound Minds is a private mental health and wellness practice. Using evidence-based, neuroscience-informed approaches, we work together to untangle the patterns that keep repeating and process the difficult emotions that are hard to shift on your own.
Whether you're in the middle of something acute, or sitting with something that has quietly been there for years, this is a space for that work.
My Approach
I work with people navigating anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief, and patterns they'd like to understand and shift - including the quieter ones like drinking, or overspending. My approach is integrative and evidence-informed. This means I draw on a range of research and science-backed approaches during our sessions for the best outcome:
-
Positive Psychology
-
Attachment Theory and the prepare/enrich framework
-
Polyvagal Theory and the current neuroscience research on the nervous system
-
The Safe and Sound Protocol sound-based listening therapy
-
Nervous System Regulation Techniques and Bilateral Brain Integration
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS) parts work
-
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) techniques
-
Breathing and Somatic Regulation
-
Harm Reduction Therapy perspectives
-
Family Systems Therapy (FST) informed approaches
-
Creative Arts and Narrative Therapies if required
-
Trauma-informed processes
-
Grief-informed processes
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Solutions Focused Therapy (SFBT)

Working Together
The way we work together will depend on you - some people benefit from practical, solutions-focused approaches; others find more value in creative or narrative ways of exploring their experiences.
Often it's a blend of both.
More than any single technique, I offer considered, unhurried attention - space where you can think clearly, feel honestly, and make sense of what's actually going on.

There is no wrong time to invest in your Mental Health
This is something nobody tells you
about therapy.
You don’t have to be falling apart to benefit from it.
Often the people who get the most out of it are often the ones who come in before the crisis — building the emotional resilience, self-awareness, and relational skills that mean they're not starting from zero when life gets hard (and it may).
About Me
Colleen
Carolin
Registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Before entering private practice, I spent more than 25 years across corporate, business ownership, and entrepreneurship – building things from the ground up, navigating cross-continental moves, and living through the kinds of transitions my clients now bring to the room. I came to this work not as a detour, but as a destination.
I have often been the person people come to and I was naturally drawn to deeper conversations. For a long time I understood this as a personal quality - something I simply was, rather than something I could train.
Eventually I understood that the instinct needed a proper container. My Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy gave me that - the clinical framework, the neuroscience, the ethics, and the language for experiences I had been living for years without quite being able to name.
I've started over more than once -
in countries, in careers, and in versions of myself
and I have learned that resilience isn't a personality trait; it's a practice
Resilience isn't something you find in a crisis. It's something you build before one. Most people meet a crisis hoping resilience shows up. Preventive Mental Health is how you make sure it does.
Just like fitness and strength training, or having a healthy diet, I believe that investing in building your mental health fitness means that you have the tools, supports and habits in place, that cushion you against life's setbacks
.
Feeling mentally, emotionally and relationally fit to manage what life brings means
less floundering, faster recovery and better endurance.
My hope is that every client leaves our sessions better equipped - with the tools, the self-awareness, and the inner resources to meet whatever life brings.

Payment is processed in advance of your session so we can use that time fully, without any transactional moments at the end.
No GP referral is required.
Fees and charges
I believe in being straightforward about fees so there are no surprises. Session costs reflect the location and format of your appointment.
